READING WITH PENNEY
Children ages 5 and up are welcome to come to the Gilman Library, 100 Main Street, Alton and “Read with Penney” an adorable rescue dog who loves to sit quietly and listen to a story. Bring your favorite story or choose a book from a large selection of early readers at the library. Lynn Nemser (Penney’s owner) and Penney are a certified by “Therapy Dogs Incorporated”. Penny is a 17 pound Bichon Frise rescue dog who is probably about 5 or 6 years old. The purpose of this reading program is to enhance the reading confidence of children. Children read to Penney and can choose their own book. One child reads at a time and receives a sticker with Penney’s picture and the words “I read with Penney” on it. Parents must remain in the room while their child is reading. Registration for a 15 minute session is required and is limited. Penney will be here on Thursday, July 12th, 19th, 26th, August 02 and August 09 from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM.
