Bicycle Safety Course [Rodeos]

The Alton Police Department occasionally holds a Bike Safety Course [Rodeo] in the springtime. A bike rodeo is usually a bicycle safety clinic featuring bike safety inspections and a safety lecture about the rules of the road. This is followed by a ride on a miniature 'chalked street course' set up in a parking lot where young cyclists are shown where and how to apply the rules. Optional activities include helmet fitting, prizes and drawings, and occasionally commercial activities set up by bike shops.

The goal of the safety course (rodeo) is to empower young cyclists with a minimal set of skills for on-road riding and to teach them a small subset of the rules of the road sufficient to keep them safe.

Please check our Website 'Announcement' section for upcoming programs and scheduling.
