Administrative Assistant. The Alton Highway Department is accepting resumes/applications for the position of Secretary at the Highway Department located at 80 Letter S Road in Alton. The position is full-time at 40 hours per week with the occasional possibility for overtime. The position includes a benefits package including medical ins, dental ins, vacation time, holiday pay, sick leave, etc. The work schedule for the position is Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Applicants must demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in all aspects of office work including computer software skills, office equipment, and verbal communications; ability to handle the public with courtesy and must be trustworthy with confidential matters. Qualities include being a team player, positive attitude and a good work ethic. Duties and responsibilities may vary but do include a variety of office work such as research, being assigned various projects some of which include deadlines, managing the office on a day-to-day basis, receiving instruction from the Public Works Director, etc. Minimum starting hourly rate is $16.36 depending on experience.
